As someone who likes to write fiction with supernatural elements, this quote from Neil Gaiman is both funny and also food for thought. Good fiction allows you to believe what you know isn’t true. Gaiman is a master at such writing; so are Alice Hoffman, Sharyn McCrumb, Stephen Graham Jones, Eowyn Ivey, Erin Morgenstern, and Jasper Fforde are some of my favorite authors to pull me into their fictional worlds.

All of the above authors write fiction, but it is fiction that is wildly different. What all of these writers (and there are more, but this is what I came up with just glancing at my shelves) have in common though, is their ability to pull me into the worlds they created.
